Fanciful Fish

This looks like a silk painting, doesn't it?  Well, it's not.  It's actually a watercolor that I did a long time ago.  This was way before I'd ever even heard about silk painting but I guess even then I liked the effect of the white lines and graphic quality this technique gives.  This was done without any resist.  I painted around all of the white lines which are about 1/16" wide.  I don't think I could do that now.  My eyes aren't as good as they used to be nor do I have the patience anymore.  I should try this design in silk and see how different it looks.

  2. What a fun piece! The expression on the top left fish's face? Perfect! See? I knew lack of patience was my big problem. I don't think I could have done this at my best, Nancy!

  3. Thanks Theresa.

Sherry, I like the expression on the top fish's face too. He seems to want to tell us something.
I know you could do this technique but you probably have better things to do with your time. The silk painting is definitely easier and you get the same effect.

  4. I did think this was a silk painting! How funny that you went out of your way to create the white lines, while so many silk painters go out of their way to avoid them! I like the graphic quality of the lines too - I hate that there seems to be a growing tendency among silk painters to view the outlines very negatively.

  5. Hi Deborah, I think the white lines in a silk painting are a large part of the beauty of silk painting. Of course, I also love the more blended look too. Everything about silk painting is beautiful to me.
