Cocos

We just returned from Mexico and while we were there, I painted this one.  Technically, I started it at home a few years ago and never seemed to find the motivation to finish it.  So I decided to take it on a tropical vacation and, while being in the right atmosphere, it seemed to finish itself.

When I look at coco palm trees, I can feel my blood pressure drop and I get a feeling of tranquility.  That's probably because, in my mind, coconut palms and vacation are linked together.

This was painted with acrylics.  I just started using some of the Golden Open acrylics and I'm enjoying them a bit more than regular acrylics.  They stay wet longer so I have more time to blend and play with the paint.  I still fight with this medium more than any other but I am determined to someday finish an acrylic painting without uttering one single swear word.

  1. I agree with you about coconut trees and blood pressure. Whether I'm driving down to Florida or flying home to the Caribbean, my mood instantly lifts at the first sight of a coconut tree!

Great job with this one... I like how the main one jumps out at you and the others recede.

    Gros bisous

  3. Thank you Deborah.

Merci Martinealison. J'aime boire de l'eau de noix de coco trop si elle vient directement de la noix de coco. Ce qui est dans les boîtes dans les magasins est horrible!

  4. Tee hee. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that (utters swear words). I will admit that I wish I'd stop that though. Oh I do so love coconuts too. So this is what they are like before they get all that hair and turn brown on the outside?

  5. This is the stage where there is only a little coconut inside and a lot of coconut water. Where we visit in Mexico, they are more interested in them for the water than the coconut. I think as they get more mature you will find that hairy brown thing inside of this outer shell.

  6. Nancy, the beautiful colors alone instill vacation feelings. I love the way you handled the background! It looks like it was fun and easy to paint despite of any struggles you had!
