The support for this painting is a previous painting that I wasn't in love with so I covered it with gesso using the edge of a scrap of matboard to create texture. This sealed the paper which made the paint sit on the surface. That made it very easy to lift paint which is very helpful. I really enjoy painting this way and am not sure why I don't do it more often. I certainly have plenty of paintings that could be covered with gesso and wouldn't be missed. ; )
