Wow! Is this weird or what? I do love to experiment. I started this painting intending for it to be a non-representational painting. I poured resist on the paper and moved it around. I kept seeing a face and neck from those lines on the left side. Of course, the face shape is not really realistic but I went with it anyway. The other lines reminded me of one of my bad hair days so I started playing with hair. Then it started to look like it was floating in water so I went in that direction. I need to fix her mouth. The left side has a highlight on it but unless you are looking at it from close up, her mouth looks crooked. I love the feeling of movement in this painting and overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

That's so cool! I love how it turned out, keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteNancy, I think this is so amazing! I love the idea of the face looking up from the water (who is Matt...a relative?). Rather eerie and mysterious when you think about it. You made me laugh about the bad hair days; I can so relate. I first thought this was a Medusa like image but like your interpretation so much better and it is much more spot on. What a really cool piece!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry. Matt is our son. He's away at college in San Diego. He follows my blog but this is the first time he's commented.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous Nancy! I love the evolution of it and how it told you what direction to go in. I don't think you should change the mouth - the crookedness just goes with the wildness of the painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah. I have it taped up on the wall and I'm looking at it to decide any changes. Maybe I will leave the mouth alone. I'm kind of afraid to change it.
ReplyDeleteOh My Goodness, Nancy! I LOVE this! So much energy! Great that you let the piece "lead" you and it's so aptly titled! Hope you don't change the mouth - she has the faintest smirk which fits the overall boldness! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary. I think I will leave the mouth alone.
ReplyDeleteNancy this is so cool! Just love it! I wish I could have seen you carve this painting out!! *clap*
ReplyDeleteThank you Srishti. It was an exciting painting to do.
ReplyDeleteLove this! Actually I have been browsing your work as posted in the blog and I love that you are so freely experimental. It really does lead you into original territory.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol. I do love to experiment.
