White Lilies on TerraSkin

I had such a good time painting this one.  This is an acrylic painting, but I've used the acrylic watered down like watercolors.  For me, this is my favorite way to use acrylics.  I just don't like the feeling of thick acrylic paint.  I always feel like I'm fighting with it.

The surface I used is Terraskin, that stone and resin 'paper' that I've used that is similar to Yupo.  I love the textures I was able to create in the background.  The reason I used acrylic paint instead of watercolor was because I wanted to use several layers of paint and I didn't want to lose the textured effect as I added more paint.

  2. Your floral pieces are always so beautiful, Nancy! The background is as interesting as the flowers themselves. I'm waiting for my painting joy to return over here. Sometimes a failure sets me back more than it should.

  5. Thank you Prerana. It was a lot of fun doing the background. I'm not sure that I could have gotten the same effect on regular paper.

  6. What a great feeling of depth you got in the background, Nancy. Love it!

Working only in silk, all these different types of papers are so foreign to me but sound like fun to work with... I wish I had time to try them out! So many toys, so little time...

  7. Hi Deborah, you get that kind of depth with your silk paintings so I wouldn't even think about trying any other mediums.

  8. This is really lovely. I got some samples of Terra Skin a few years ago but have not really found a good source for it in the US. Where do you get yours if you don't mind me asking.

    1. Thank you Jan. Last time I checked, Cheap Joe's Art Supply was the only place in the U.S. that supplies it. I purchased mine from Mitz art in Canada through their ETSY shop. I imagine shipping would be less through Cheap Joe's with it being in the states. TerraSkin is pretty heavy. Cheap Joe's has sales with free shipping sometimes with a minimum purchase. You should sign up for their e-mails and you will get notified when they have them. Good luck!
