I know the last thing I need is a new medium to learn but this is such fun. Today I mixed some of my oil paints with clear encaustic medium so I'll have some colors to use without a huge expense. The pre-made encaustic colors are expensive and I already had a lot of oil paint so it seemed like a good way to save money and use up some of my extra art supplies. I'll try using my homemade colors first until I see if I want to continue with this medium. I know they won't be as intense or concentrated as the professional ones but I know I'll still have fun with them.

Couldn't tell you if the characters are upside down or not, but the piece is a strong one, Nancy. I was just looking at Robin Samiljan's encaustic work in the blog before your's on my blog roll. Two completely different techniques, I think, but both work so beautifully. Nothing wrong with adding to your repertoire, at least to my mind. Your work is always beautiful and this piece is no exception.

Thank you Sherry. I also follow Robin's work and have always loved it. She is very creative in her art and I hope to become as good with encaustics as she is.
Looks like you will be joining me in the encaustic addiction, Nancy! Love the transfers you did. You will find that the ways to paint with wax can be overwhelming at times but you have an excellent starting point.
ReplyDeleteI can see that this medium is going to be fighting for my time. I think it might just win. I've already done my second painting which I will post on Monday. I wish I had more time to play with this medium. I love the fluid look of it.
