Nature's Majesty

These two paintings were painted from the same photo.  The first one was painted a couple of months ago and the second one was finished today.  I took the picture in Alaska in Tracy Arm.  It is such a beautiful place.  I think the two paintings make the scene look very different.   The first one is a palette knife painting and the second one is a watercolor.

I like the texture in this one:

Nature's Majesty

I like the softness of this one:

Nature's Majesty II
Image Size 15" x 21"

  1. I agree, I like them both for different reasons. I've never played with a palette knife. Very textural!
    Nice

  2. Both are really terrific, each in their own way. You're right about the texture and the softness. If I had to choose, I think I'd go with the texture one - love the work you've been doing with the palette knife & this one really shows off your skill!

  3. I love seeing the paintings in two different medias. I like them both for different reasons. Such a cool post:)--On a side note I've thought about doing the same painting twice in different media but get bored so kudos, because it's very neat to see them together.

  5. Vicki, the palette knife is really fun. You should try it.

Thanks Nancie. I think that's my favorite too. I love the texture that I get with the palette knife.

Carrie, I understand how you could get bored. I have a short attention span so waiting a couple of months between these paintings made each one seem new and fresh.

Yes, Lisa. I love using different styles and mediums. It makes life exciting.

  8. Thanks Theresa, I often plan to do the same scene in many different mediums but usually lose my motivation.

Thanks Jerry. The palette knife one was more fun to paint too.

  10. I like the effect you achieved with the palette knife, and the composition is more interesting than the other... I like the mountains in the background. I have some photos of Tracy Arm... I should find them and do a painting. It is a beautiful area.

  12. Thanks Mary Anne.

Carole, I would think you never have to search very far for beautiful things to paint. You are surrounded by beauty. Tracy Arm IS wonderful. I loved all of the wildlife we saw there.

    Thanks Robin.

  13. Hi Nancy! They're both great and each has it's own mood and I agree - your water with it's bold texture does it for me, too!

  15. Thanks Linny and Deborah, the palette knife does make a painting interesting automatically, doesn't it?
