This painting was my second attempt at a poured watercolor. I think my first attempt, Colimilla, was more successful but this was a learning experience. I may try it again because I think this scene works well for pouring. I would like to get more color variation next time.
My reference photo was taken just south of Puerto Vallarta and I loved the white light glistening on the water.

I love how you captured the glistening light on the water! This thumbnail really caught my eye, great work Nancy!
ReplyDeleteNancy, thank you for visiting the other day and for your encouraging words. I highly value your input.
ReplyDeletePouring watercolor is such fun isn't it? Having seen your second pouring attempt i am inspired to try one as well. You were able to save the highlights on the water rather well. Nicely done...
I know Barb Sailor has done some beautiful poured pieces and I'm pretty sure she once explained the how to's in her blog, not that I could find it now without spending hours in the search. I think this piece is beautiful though, Nancy. I love the water being framed by the grasses and the light reflection is handled beautifully and oh so perfectly!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors and reflections in the water, Nancy! I love the light hitting the mountains!! Perfect...
ReplyDeleteI like what you did. Great reflections and neat colours. Pouring really gives you that urge to push the colours. I think it looks good but if your not happy it is probably your values. Maybe there is a punch you were looking for that is missing. I don't see it but we all have our own plan for the picture and so that is what we are looking for.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for you wonderful comments
ReplyDeleteWendy, there are two reasons I want to re-do this painting. First, you are right about the values. There are really light values and really dark values but not a good range of values. The other thing I'm not as happy with is the white reflections. I would spend more time and make less gloppy.
ReplyDeleteThe pouring give a nice depth to the rolling hills. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThank you Joan.
