What a surprise, another koi painting! I just can't seem to stay away from them. I painted this while I was in Mexico. My friend that lives there was looking at my reference photos of the Koi and since she had never seen this type of fish before she said how beautiful they were and asked if they taste good. When I told her that people don't usually eat them and that they can be very expensive she looked at me like I was crazy.
This is a 48" x 48" acrylic painted on a cradled wood panel.

J'adore celui qui tente de nous parler !!! en ouvrant grande sa bouche hors de l'eau... Une très jolie parade... Un travail majestueux de l'eau et des transparences avec les poissons.
ReplyDeleteBravo !
Gros bisous
This is sooo beautiful, Nancy!! I have about 8 koi's in my pond and I know how beautiful they are! The brilliant colors always amazes me. Now that the warmer weather is here, we're starting to see them come up! Love this painting!
ReplyDeleteYour story made me smile, Nancy. I love when you paint koi. That little whirlpool in the center is fabulous! Someone must have just gotten fed!
ReplyDeleteMerci Martinealison. J'ai toujours ajouter un koi avec sa bouche ouverte quand je peins ces poissons. Cela semble ajouter de la personnalité à la peinture. J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à peindre l'eau avec des émaux de nombreux.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hilda. Lucky you! I would love to have a Koi pond. Watching them is so relaxing and comforting. Do they do okay with the cold winter weather?
Thank you Sherry. I think the fish with his mouth open is begging for food. My friend named him Guillermo.
I love the colors & movement in this. And I really LOVE Guilermo! Great addition to the painting!
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy.... I love this painting of the Koi fish. Although it's acrylic it has a definite watercolor feel to it. I'm a watercolor artist living just south of Boston and found your blog through the Tustin Art League.... a site that caught my eye as I have a good friend who lives there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nan. Guillermo seems to be a bit demanding compared to the other fish but I still love him. : )
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen, glad you found my blog. The reason this looks like a watercolor is because the only way I can stand to work with acrylics is to thin them until they look and act like watercolor. I do like the ability to do multiple glazes without worrying about the previous layers lifting but I don't think that the acrylics have the same luminosity that you get with watercolors. It is nice not to have to frame them behind glass though.
