Golden Beets

I went to the Farmer's Market last week and saw these beautiful beets. I had never heard of golden beets. I don't think I captured the color as much as I would have liked. The golds with the rose and other colors made them look almost iridescent. This is done in pastels on mat board coated with pumice gel. I wanted to try painting them in oils too but they had lost their freshness by the time I was ready to paint them again. I had taken pictures of them but they didn't look the same as in real life. I guess I'll hit the Farmer's Market again this week and try again.
I'm working on some large watercolors and I'm really excited about them. Watercolor really is my favorite medium. I may have one of them finished for next week.

  1. I am always amazed when people take vegetables and turn them into beautiful works of art and you have certainly done that here.

  2. Watercolors are my favorite medium too, though colored pencils place a darned close second (thanks to fabulous colored pencil artists and their works that I've seen). These are lovely and I've not heard of them either. I wonder what they taste like?

  3. Thank you Ralph. I think vegetables are more fun to paint than eat.

Sherry, I can see why colored pencils are a favorite of yours along with watercolor. I love the look of them but rarely have the patience to use them. I agree, there are some wonderful colored pencil artists out there and I really appreciate their work, knowing how much time went into them.

  4. Hi Nancy, I love your pastel beets, you seem to have a knack to master every medium. Thanks for coming to my home yesterday to see the garden tour. It was so wonderful to meet you and your friend. I went to your website and blog and I am so impressed with your work! I love some of your florals, you should have brought your sketchbook up yesterday and painted with me! Thanks for tolerating my sharing, I dont often get to meet fellow artist that have the same interests! I would love some info on the watercolor shows you were telling me about. Beautiful blog!

  5. Thank you Amy.

Thanks Desiree. Ellen and I had such a nice time at your house. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us your beautiful quilts and pastels. I am in awe of your work.
