Laguna At Night

"Laguna At Night"
Image size 8" x 10"
I took a one day workshop this past weekend to learn to paint a night scene.  I think I need to practice some more, but it was very interesting and a challenge to tone down the colors, especially for me because I love bright colors so much.  I'm looking forward to trying more dusk/night paintings in the future.  Even though oil isn't my medium of choice usually, it was fun to experiment with it.

Encaustic, Oil, Shellac Burn
Just playing around with different techniques this week.  I really enjoy working with these three mediums together.

There are so many layers in this painting with varying degrees of opacity and transparency.  I would tell you what I see in this painting, but I think abstracts should be analyzed by the individual viewer.  It's fun to "find" things in a painting like this.

Cerveza Time

"Cerveza Time"
Image size 14" x 20"
This painting has been in the works for a couple of months.  Painting a portrait is very stressful for me, so I procrastinate more than usual when I'm working on one.  I've always loved this photo of my son and knew that at some point I would try painting it.

Happy New Year!!  As one of my New Year's resolutions, I am planning to finish unfinished paintings.  This one has been hanging around for about 4 years and looked very different than it does now.  I started it in acrylic and had painted the canvas red before I began the painting letting a lot of the red peek through.  I decided that I wanted it to be a softer painting so I painted over the red and switched to oil.  I haven't really painted flowers for many years so it was interesting to work on this.  I'm happy to have finished it and will be hunting through my studio to find another unfinished painting...
