This month's location for the virtual paintout is Prince Edward Island in Canada. When I saw this sky on Google Street view, I wanted to try recreating it with pastels. I wanted to make the sky the focal point so I didn't do any detail in the foreground. I didn't do any blending on this. I tried to give the impression of the clouds' wispiness with texture instead.

Nancy, this is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love how you've composed this and the colours you've used.
ReplyDeleteThanks you Sherry and Cathy.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this post I only noticed the huge sky with billowy clouds, last week I was so inspired by clouds that the timing couldn't have been better. Love the cotton-ball softness of this.
ReplyDeleteThank you Robin. I'll be looking for your cloud paintings.
ReplyDeleteA tremendous pastel how I love skys and sea this is a magnificient sky
ReplyDeleteGreat piece, beautifully captured. The sky here in Atlantic Canada during Aug/Sept does have a special quality. Deep blue skies with puffy clouds and the light makes everything crispier than ever. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ralph. I love skies too and it's fun to make them the focal point of a painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alvin. Yes, I've found some great skies in Canada while traveling using google street views. We seldom get dramatic skies here in So. California so I have to find them in my virtual travels.
You captured the big, open space of the land! Love it. Can't wait to google Prince Edward Island and give this challenge a whirl.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty location. I've done two more paintings of it that I will be posting soon.
ReplyDeleteI really like this, it's so much like the dramitic skies we get in the Falklands that I do try to paint but I've never been able to capture them as well as you've dome with this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ben. I'm sure your dramatic skies are every bit as good as mine.
