Lakeside Reflections

I put that gesso mixture on another old painting and of course I forgot to take a picture of what it looked like  before I added it.  It was a wishy-washy watercolor.  It's no masterpiece now but I do like the textures I was able to create.  I still have at least 10 more paintings that are major rejects that I plan to re-work using this process.  If you missed the post where I talked about this you can find it here.

  2. So is this watercolor on top of that mixture, Nancy? I never seem to get this level of color saturation when painting watercolor over gesso. What is the secret combination of amounts and what is "matte" medium? Love this piece!

    1. Thank you Sherry. Matte medium is an acrylic medium. I think most acrylic manufacturers make it. They also make it in a gloss finish but I wouldn't use that for a watercolor painting. The mixture is 50% gesso, 25% water and 25% matte medium. I'm thinking of adjusting that to use less gesso and more medium so that it is a little more transparent the next time I try this technique.
