Peppers On TerraSkin

"Peppers On TerraSkin

Watercolor
I finished up another old painting this week.  This is on TerraSkin, which I haven't used for a while.  I had forgotten what a great surface it is for watercolor.  I'm glad I finished an old project and will use the TerraSkin again soon.

Waterways

"Waterways"

This looks like an underwater infrastructure to me.  Painting watery looking paintings seems to ease the heat we are having.  I painted this on TerraSkin, which I haven't used for quite a while.  If you regularly follow this blog, you might remember that TerraSkin is a surface made from stone dust and non-toxic resin.  It is mostly non-porous, but the surface has a little bit of tooth which holds the paint a bit better than Yupo, another non-porous 'paper'.

I love using fluid acrylics on this surface.  I've also experimented with watercolor, oil and pastel, but I think acrylics are so perfect to used in transparent layers.

Little Plumeria Study

Watercolor on TerraSkin

It seems like forever since I've painted with watercolor and I've really missed it.  This is a small study on TerraSkin, which I haven't used for a long time either.  I had forgotten how much fun this surface is to paint of and definitely need to use TerraSkin more often.  It's challenging to layer color without lifting the under layers but that is part of the fun!

Freesias

Here's a small watercolor sketch done on TerraSkin.  I haven't worked on this surface for awhile and am happy to be back to it.  It's such a great paper having a lot of the properties of Yupo but the lifting abilities are a bit different.
This photo doesn't really show the painting off very well.  It is brighter and the flowers aren't washed out like they show here. I used a different camera than usual and it "blahed" everything out a bit.

Wisteria on TerraSkin

Painting on TerraSkin is quickly becoming an addiction for me.  I really love the effects I get when using liquid acrylics on it.  Also, I probably have more acrylic paint than I could use in one lifetime so I might as well use it.  Using watercolor on the TerraSkin is fun too but I really like being able to paint so many layers with the acrylic and know that all of the previous layers are permanent.  Of course, then I am giving up the lifting qualities that are so wonderful with this surface.
