I've painted this scene before in oil. This is a watercolor and is much larger. As I look at this photo, I can see that I need to go back in and add more autumn colors into the leaves of the trees that are leaning into the picture. I don't take pictures of my paintings until Monday afternoon and that's when I usually see changes that need to be made that I don't see when I look at the actual painting - probably because I'm looking at it too intently and miss the obvious. Also, lately, I seem to barely be finishing my weekly painting Monday afternoon and I don't have time to make changes before I post it. Maybe I should be managing my time better.
I did spend the earlier part of the week adding some darks to last week's painting. I am much happier with the it now. I think it would have had more of a glow if I had used watercolor rather than acrylics though. Here is the redone version. I still think I like the one I did a couple of weeks ago in watercolor as a study better than this one. What do you think?
Wow, Nancy!! Calm Creek appeals to me on many levels and I think it is my favorite of all your paintings to date! I really think it is stunning! As to the asparagus, I think you still have room to push those darks. I think it is wonderful as it stands however, and the textured background is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry. There are some things that I don't like about the asparagus painting that aren't changeable at this point so I think I shall just call it done and move on to the next project.... : )
DeleteDon't we all need time management, no matter how much you have it goes fast, just like August already? Like the changes to the asparagus it does liven it up and change the focus.

Thank you Nelvia. No, I don't think I will do the September challenge. I have a hard enough time cranking out a painting each week. Most of those daily paintings from the January challenge were not very exciting because I had a hard time deciding what to paint each day. Are you going to do it?

ReplyDeleteThe texture and depth in the Asparagus painting is hinting me at the fact that no painting is complete at any stage, it evolves as we evolve with our thoughts, so beautiful!

DeleteYou are a master at watercolor! You really know the medium & can make it "sing." Love how you handled the water in the creek! And I do love your acrylics too - I'm always amazed when an artist can do watercolor AND acrylics well. The approach is so different with each, I have a hard time with their differences. Nice work Nancy!

I can't really take credit for working in both acrylics and watercolors well because I really treat acrylics as though they are watercolors, diluting them to the point that I can paint the same way as I do with watercolors. Sometimes I paint with acrylics in their thick state and I must say, I feel very uncomfortable with them and not at all capable.
