Iris Study

"Iris Study"
Image size 9" x 12"
Acrylic
This is the flower study I painted as an option for the painting party that I was supposed to do this past week.  I had to reschedule it because I've been sick all week.

This option was also not chosen so maybe it will be for a future painting party or just another of my weekly paintings.

I'm really enjoying working with acrylics again.  I'm getting more used to them, but they will probably never take the place of watercolors and encaustics in my heart.

Wave Study

"Wave Study"
Image size 9" x 12"
Acrylic
This week, I'm leading one of those painting parties where everyone paints the same subject.  I painted this wave as an option for them.  I showed this, a floral and a vineyard scene and they decided to paint the vineyard scene, which I demonstrated at a previous party.

Here is what we will be painting:
I don't usually do painting parties, but I donated this at a fundraiser and I think it will be really fun!
I hope everyone has a good time.

Lots Of Lemons

"Lots Of Lemons"
Image Size 10" x 12"
Watercolor

This is another color study for my watercolor class.  Again, I used just three primary colors which were cobalt blue, alizarin crimson, and aureolin yellow.  I used a scrap piece of watercolor paper that I had in my studio to draw the design at home.  When I started painting on it in class, I immediately discovered that the sizing had disintegrated and it would be really hard to move paint around on it.  It acts like blotter paper when there is no sizing.

At first, I was upset and considered using another piece of paper, but I decided to just deal with it.  It requires working in a different manner than I usually use and it's hard to blend colors because the color immediately soaks into the paper and is not blendable,  but it became a challenge and was pretty fun!  That's a good thing, because I seem to have a lot of old watercolor paper that has lost its sizing!

Two Pear Study

"Two Pear Study"
Image size 4" x 6"
Watercolor
This is another study for my watercolor class.  I'm still using only three colors: Alizarin Crimson, Prussian Blue and Aureolin.  My shadows got too muddy and the colors look a little dead to me, but I'm learning and that's what's important, right?

I painted this a bit looser than the previous pear painting, allowing my brushstrokes to show rather than blending everything.
